The Solar Decathlon is a worldwide decathlon in which students experiment with new forms of housing. The houses are powered by solar energy and showcase climate-friendly building principles. This year, the event took place in Wuppertal in Germany.

Teams from ten countries competed
A total of 16 teams from universities in ten countries competed in Wuppertal. The Solar Decathlon Europe was hosted by the Bergische Universität Wuppertal, and the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology provided financial support for the competition.
These are the winning teams:
1st place: Team Roofkit, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany, for the renovation and extension of Café Ada in Wuppertal,
2nd place: Team Virtue, Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands, also for the refurbishment and extension of Café ADA in Wuppertal,
3rd place: Team Aura from the School of Architecture in Grenoble, France, for the renovation and extension of the "Two Sisters" hotel in Château Bernard,
3rd place: Team Sum from the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands for the refurbishment and extension of rental flats in The Hague. (HS/mfo)
