Enapter has broken ground for the future mass production facility of electrolysers for the generation of green hydrogen in Germany. The 82,000-square-metre facility is being built north of Münster in North Rhine-Westphalia. The aim is to reach a production capacity of 10,000 units per month from 2023 to meet the growing demand for green hydrogen. Compact, modular AEM electrolysers for green hydrogen, should drive the energy transition, if Enapter CEO Sebastian-Justus Schmidt has his way.
Enapter Campus in North Rhine-Westphalia to cost around 105 million euros
According to current plans, the Enapter Campus currently under construction will cost around 105 million euros. Construction partner Goldbeck is following a tight schedule so that a gradual start of production can take place as early as the fourth quarter of 2022. The first customer deliveries from automated mass production are targeted for 2023.

Accordingly, around 300 new jobs are to be created in Saerbeck near Münster. The automated mass production of the electrolysers should ensure that the costs for the devices fall and green hydrogen thus quickly becomes competitive. The state of North Rhine-Westphalia is supporting the construction of the machinery needed for mass production with about 9.36 million euros. 420 of the electrolysis stacks will be combined by Enapter from 2022 in the hydrogen generator AEM Multicore, with which the megawatt scale is to be reached for the first time, Enapter plans.
