E-mobility: EnBW and Hyundai cooperate – charging infrastructure and green power

EnBW service charging station for the new Hyundai IONIQ Elektro. Two cars can be loaded simultaneously.

The utility equips dealerships, workshops and customers with charging infrastructure for the first Hyundai electric car IONIQ Elektro.

EnBW has become the Hyundai partner responsible for equipping dealerships and service points of Hyundai Motor Deutschland GmbH with charging stations for electric vehicles. In order to offer Hyundai end customers holistic electro-mobility solutions from one source, the companies have signed a corresponding cooperation agreement.

All-inclusive package for environmentally friendly mobility

The energy supply company has been selected as the preferred partner for the set up and operation of the electric charging facilities for the around 560 Hyundai authorised dealerships and service points in Germany for the market launch of the electrically powered IONIQ Elektro. In addition, Hyundai customers will be able to source EnBW charging facilities for the home and also acquire charging cards for the public charging stations operated by EnBW via their dealership in the future. Furthermore, Hyundai dealers will also offer green electricity supply contracts together with EnBW, making it possible for them to provide their customers with an all-inclusive package for environmentally friendly mobility.

Service and operation of the charging stations

“With the new IONIQ, we aim to take on a leading role as a supplier of alternative drive systems in Germany. We are delighted that we have found an established partner in the form of EnBW who will equip our dealerships and workshops and will also be available over the long term for the servicing and operation of the charging stations,” explains Markus Schrick, Managing Director of Hyundai Motor Deutschland. Each charging station that is due to be installed at Hyundai dealerships will be able to charge two vehicles at the same time. Dealers will thus be able to hand over the new IONIQ models fully charged to customers upon delivery or following a workshop appointment. In addition, drivers of e-autos will be able to recharge at these Hyundai dealerships in the future.

Make e-mobility simple and convenient

“Our goal is to make e-mobility in Germany simple and convenient by providing a dense net-work of charging stations. The fact that we have gained Hyundai as a partner is another important step for us towards achieving this goal and confirmation that we have developed intelligent solutions for our customers,” commented Thomas Stebich, who is responsible for setting up electric charging infrastructures for companies within the EnBW innovation project “time2charge”.

Operation of more than 700 public charging points

EnBW has long-standing experience with charging stations for e-mobility. It already operates more than 700 public charging points, supplies around 100 electric cars in its own vehicle fleet and maintains the charging infrastructure for Germany’s largest fleet of electric cars in cooperation with car2go. Furthermore, the company will also install 68 quick charging stations at the 34 Tank&Rast motorway service stations in Baden-Württemberg by the end of 2016. (HCN)
