Endurance-EV driving:

Mobile ultra-fast charging station enables new world record

Porsche had a special present for the 75th anniversary of car magazine auto motor und sport. In mid-May at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz, the 24-hour endurance record was broken with a production electric vehicle. The Porsche Taycan that can be charged very fast with 270 kilowatts thanks to 800-volt technology. The record chasers installed an improvised pit lane with mobile fast charging station to enable the record run. The ChargeTrailer developed by Ads-Tec Energy is like a giant power bank on wheels and ensures with 320 kilowatts of charging power the fastest possible "pressure refuelling" of the Taycan in just a few minutes. The integrated 2.1 megawatt buffer battery held enough energy and would also have been sufficient for a second or parallel record drive because it stores more electricity than a two-person household needs for an entire year. The requirements in the Lausitz were clear – charging had to be kept on site and as fast as possible to lose no time.

Power pack on four wheels – with and without grid connection

The ChargeTrailer was the ideal partner for the record attempt. At the world's most powerful mobile fast charging system in the form of a truck trailer, ten e-vehicles can be charged simultaneously with up to 320 kilowatts of power. The charging points are coupled and the energy can be individually controlled as well as optimally distributed when required. In total, the truck has a capacity of 3.2 megawatts. The Ads-Tec developers have optimised the system in terms of weight and size so that it can be used as a roadworthy 40-ton truck – whether for driving events of e-vehicles, trade fairs or events. The Ads-Tec service team is available for round-the-clock support on-site. Since 2019, several trailers have been successfully in operation.

The compact and extremely flexible concept enables fast assembly and disassembly directly at the site of operation. The buffer battery can be connected anywhere at the usual grid connection and charges constantly on the grid parallel to the charging processes. If no power connection is available, the enormous charging power is also available in island mode. During the record drive, the charging truck parked directly at the racetrack and saved the drive to the only fast charger at the EuroSpeenway Lausitz, one kilometre away.

Impressive charging time

With its 270 kilowatt charging speed, the Taycan only needed about eleven minutes of charging time. The e-vehicle only hung on the power cable for four hours and 48 minutes for fast charging. This makes it clear: Without the enormous charging power of the mobile Supercharger and the flexibility of the system, the world record would not have been possible. Despite unfavourable external conditions with eleven degrees and continuous rain, the charging trailer constantly delivered the required ultra-fast charging power for 24 hours. (mfo)
