The charging network in Austria is becoming denser. According to the Federal Association of Electric Mobility Austria (BEÖ), electric car drivers in the Alpine Republic had access to 17,728 public charge points at the end of March this year. This is a growth of a good 44 per cent compared to the same time last year, when 12,296 charge points were publicly accessible. Compared to November 2021, when drivers could publicly refuel at 9,500 charge points, this is almost a doubling. This is because the BEÖ now assumes that the number of public charge points is now close to the 20,000 mark.
Charging network becomes denser
Most charge points are located in Lower Austria. Here, drivers can refuel publicly at almost 4,000 charge points. Vienna, Tyrol and Upper Austria follow in the rankings. "In a European comparison, the charging network per e-car in Austria is one of the densest," explains Andreas Reinhardt, chairman of the BEÖ. "We are doing very well and are almost reaching the EU targets now - seven years earlier than planned."
Emergency programme drawn up
Last year, Austria also presented its own immediate programme for the expansion of electromobility. This envisages that in 2030 all drivers in Austria will have to travel a maximum of 15 kilometres to a fast-charging station. For most people in Austria, the nearest fast-charging station should be less than three kilometres away. In addition, a fast-charging station for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles is to be available every 25 kilometres on federal roads and motorways. The distance between the locations may not exceed 50 kilometres. (su/mfo)
