Gridparity develops solar roof for green car parks

The areas are also less affected by heavy rain, hail, snow and ice. Since summer 2022, the operators of a large leisure park in southern Germany have been looking for an innovative solution that offers protection for more than just parked cars and plants.

How can protection against the weather, the production of clean electricity and sufficient light for the plants be reconciled? The answer lies in the ingenious extension of the solar modules at the rear end of the canopy. The open construction is reminiscent of butterfly wings. It is cleverly supplemented: the extended roof panels protect the plants in the green strips while letting in enough light.

By increasing the module surface area by 1.2 metres, around 25 percent more solar power is generated. The result is a roof that offers added value not only ecologically, but also economically. (nhp/HS)
