Lapp Group offers charging systems for BMW

In terms of its structure and manufacture, Lapp has developed a new connector to better fulfil the design requirements of BMW and other customers. Instead of overmoulding the cable and contacts as with the connectors that are already known on the market, and which continues to be available in the range as a so called heavy duty variant. With the new structure the housing is built up of three shells and fixed with six bolts, which guarantees the necessary sealing.

The three shells allow for more design variations and contrasting colours – for BMW in dark grey and blue, but many other combinations are also feasible. Consistent implementation of the customer’s corporate design is thus possible across all connector variants, Lapp says.

In contrast, the charging systems with overmoulded connector are particularly suited to applications that are subject to particular stress such as public charging stations, car sharing, etc. The charging products for BMW i models are optionally equipped with type 1 or type 2 couplings, upon which the European manufacturers have agreed as a standard. Furthermore, BMW sells the so called BMW i wall box home charging stations, which can be installed at home in the garage or also in company car parks to draw upon electrical power there. For these, too, the charging systems are supplied by Lapp. (nhp)
