At the international trade fair, in the trade fair forum and at the accompanying Power2Drive Europe Conference, manufacturers, suppliers, installers, fleet and energy managers, dealers and start-ups will establish their business contacts and gather information on all aspects of smart charging solutions, electric vehicles and mobility services.
Flexible consumers and electricity storage are becoming increasingly important with the expansion of renewable energy. For example, battery electric vehicles, through intelligent charging management, draw green power, such as from photovoltaic systems, whenever surpluses are available. Bi-directionally chargeable vehicles also not only draw electrical energy, but can feed it back into the grid as needed. The batteries of electric cars thus serve as energy storage units - the car becomes a mobile power bank.
Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology enables intelligent sector coupling and is an essential building block for the energy transition. This is because the potential of the previously unused storage capacity in e-cars is huge: V2G technology can help decarbonize the transport sector, keep the power grid stable, improve the integration of renewable energy, and create additional revenue streams for utilities and car owners. Such bidirectional charging makes the charging infrastructure at the interface between the mobility and energy sectors enormously important.
Expansion of public charging points in Europe
Especially as the network of charging points becomes denser: Charging point anxiety should soon be a thing of the past in Europe (see chart). Leading the way is the Netherlands, where the number of publicly accessible charging points grew by almost a third year-on-year to 91,739 in 2021. With an increase of 40%, the expansion is also going strong in Germany (to 62,711 charging points). This is followed by France (54,653) and Italy (26,860), two nations with the strongest percentage growth of over 75% among the top 5 countries in the European Union. EU-wide, the number of publicly available charging points has also increased by almost three quarters compared to the previous year to 338,191 charging points. The overwhelming share of more than 90% are AC charging points.
Product innovations at the trade fair: E-mobility meets energy
The movers and shakers of the energy and mobility transition meet at the Power2Drive Forum in Hall B6: manufacturers, dealers, start-ups and professional users share knowledge for the mobility sector in the context of renewable energies. While some are only just realizing the importance of renewable energies and electromobility, international industries have been developing market-ready products and solutions for years.
The international trade fair reflects the intelligent integration of electromobility into a renewable energy system, as it takes place on the innovation platform The smarter E Europe in parallel with the energy trade fairs Intersolar Europe, ees Europe and EM-Power Europe, from May 11 to 13, 2022 at Messe München.
Power2Drive Europe Conference: Rethinking mobility, focus on charging infrastructure
The accompanying conference on May 10 and 11, 2022, will bring together international experts, movers and shakers, and thought leaders in the field of new mobility. The aim is to highlight the connection between e-mobility and topics such as green power, battery storage and sector coupling. They will present trends in charging technologies for e-mobility as well as best practice examples for mobile charging solutions and discuss the connection between e-mobility and reducing the carbon footprint of the economy. One session will be dedicated to the topic of funding programs for charging infrastructure in European comparison as well as regulatory hurdles. Conference attendees will also learn how utilities benefit from charging management and how the proliferation of electric vehicles affects the power grid.
Exhibitors and visitors charge cars with green electricity
During Power2Drive Europe 2022 and the parallel energy trade fairs Intersolar Europe, ees Europe and EM-Power Europe, exhibitors and guests will charge their e-cars conveniently and free of charge - with green electricity from Messe München's solar roof. More than 80 charging stations (Parkhaus West, Messehaus) are available in the west of the grounds. In addition, Power2Drive Europe provides a further 20 AC charging points for trade customers in parking lot P9 (next to the eCar Test Drive, directly at the East Entrance to the exhibition grounds).
