Zurich city cleaning vehicles to be converted to electric

The city council of Zurich has approved the replacement of 123 commercial and municipal vehicles for the city's cleaning services for the years 2023-2030 with a committed expenditure of an estimated 21 million euros.

Entsorgung + Recycling Zürich (ERZ) will have to gradually replace a large part of the city cleaning vehicle fleet by 2030. This involves passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, but also waste collection trucks and special vehicles such as vacuum sweepers and vehicles for winter services.

In line with the climate protection target of net zero in 2040, the current diesel and petrol vehicles will be replaced by electric vehicles wherever possible, but at least 90 per cent. The entire fleet of the city cleaning service consisted of 174 vehicles in previous years. The goal is to reduce the vehicle fleet to around 154 vehicles by 2030. (mfo)
