Sweden: PPA contributes to new solar park

The 10-year agreement will see the Scandinavian manufacturer of urban furniture purchase enough green electricity to cover the entire energy consumption of its Swedish operations.

A step toward sustainable furniture

Vestre manufactures furniture for cities, parks and outdoor spaces with the aim of being the world’s most sustainable furniture company. With a global customer base and manufacturing facilities in the Nordics, Vestre claims to understand its responsibility to reduce the emissions of its operations. A key focus of its sustainability strategy is to create products that last for decades while ensuring the energy it purchases is green. Through the PPA with Better Energy, Vestre will cover the energy consumption at its Swedish facilities.

“As our first corporate PPA, it was important that we purchase enough green electricity to cover the energy consumption of our Swedish operations,” says Bjørn Fjellstad, CEO at Vestre. “At Vestre, we live by the motto: ‘Everyone can save the world. A little’. Through this PPA with Better Energy, we can reduce our emissions while helping bring additional renewable energy to Sweden.”

Green energy for Swedish partners

The partnership with Vestre showcases Better Energy’s readiness to provide Swedish companies with the opportunity to offtake new renewable energy. Throughout the Swedish market, PPAs are increasingly recognised as a tool for companies to decrease their environmental impact and participate in the green transition. The Studsvik project is being developed without subsidies and on market terms through demand for green electricity.

“Vestre is a great example of a company taking action to ensure its products are manufactured sustainably,” said Mikkel Thorup, Director of PPAs at Better Energy. “Our new solar park near Studsvik means that we can work with Swedish companies across sectors to tailor solutions to their energy requirements – bringing them closer to their sustainability targets.”

A new solar park coming to Sweden

The PPA contributes to a new Better Energy solar park in Sweden near Studsvik. Located south of Stockholm, the park will generate 25 GWh of renewable energy annually. The additional green energy produced equates to the electricity consumption of over 4,000 Swedish homes. With grid connection expected in late 2024, the park will be amongst the largest solar parks in Sweden. (hcn)
