The Jordanian Ministry Of Awqaf And Islamic Affairs, is implementing a plan to install solar energy systems on hundreds of mosques in order to reduce their carbon footprint and to save energy costs. Mosques in Jordan can currently pay as much as $1,400 monthly for air-conditioning and lighting needed to keep worshippers comfortable during their five daily prayers.
Big step for expanding presence
Jinko Solar was selected as one of the solar modules suppliers and will supply modules to several mosques in the Sweileh, Khalda, Safoot, Zarqa, and Abu Alanda districts. “We are delighted to help the Ministry Of Awqaf And Islamic Affairs power carbon neutral mosques with solar energy,” commented Mr. Gener Miao, Vice President Global Sales and Marketing of Jinko Solar, “This is another big step for us in expanding our presence in the Middle East market.”
Solar park projects
In April Jinko supplied 23 MW of its high-efficiency Eagle modules for a solar park in in Ma’an north of the Jordanian capital Amman. Partners have been Enerray, an Italian subsidiary of Maccaferri Industrial Group and Desert Technologies (‘DT’), a Saudi renewable energy engineering and construction contractor. Enerray and DT acted as turn-key EPC and O&M contractors for this project. The solar park in Ma’an is one of 12 approved PV projects by the Jordanian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resource. (HCN)
