Leaders of our industry: Florian Chan of Sungrow

1. How are you personally – and as a company – coping with the corona crisis?

We are a team of young and motivated people, so actually the transition to work from home wasn’t that hard. I do of course miss the personal exchange and the inspiration that rises when we are all in the office together, but we do our best to keep the positive spirit running. Fun and team spirit are the most important drivers for good work, that’s why we introduced digital coffee breaks and enjoy our after work beer all together in a video call.
To be able to react quickly in these days we put together a task force to facilitate quick decision-making and set up detailed guidelines for the daily epidemic prevention. Sungrow ensures that the necessary safety measures are in place and protections are available for its workers. For example, all our factory workers wear provided gloves and masks, and temperature measurement at entrance were strictly followed to prevent them from getting infected. Thanks to a high level of automation and spacious workshop the workers can maintain social distancing within the factory while doing their job on the shop floor.

2. What are you enthusiastic about, apart from your company?

I love innovation and technology. This quickly changing industry inspires me to think out of the box and get creative in other life situations as well. Technology doesn’t expect boarders and so don’t I.

3. What social media account or podcast makes your life better?

I really like Ted Talks Daily on Spotify. Normally I listen to it while driving to work. Now I do it while drinking my first coffee in the morning – it’s a good way to start in your day motivated. The Verge on Twitter and YouTube. Nice way to stay up to date!

4. Whom would you like to meet/have met?

Steve Jobs – he is my absolute idol.
His perfectionism and his philosophy of customer centricity and easy to use products are incredible.

5. If you could change one thing in the world – other than the corona crisis, of course – what would it be?

I want things to change. That’s why I would wish the oil reserves to end tomorrow. This would finally force people to change their behavior and not just talk about it.

6. What aspect of your company’s work are you most proud?

With our “Yes we can” attitude we make the impossible happen. We are fast and powerful; this is our Chinese DNA. We have a massive R&D task force to push innovation and develop the most intuitive and persuasive products of the whole industry. In our European team we count on motivated talents. We aim for new perspectives, to do things differently, and to make photovoltaics fun. With our powerful roots in China and the continuous striving for more of our European team, we are unstoppable. We will accomplish our mission: Clean Power For All – It’s a promise!
