In the most recent instalment of Leaders of our Industry, you got to meet Andreas Grochowiak of TG hyLIFT. Now it is the turn of Jürgen Reinert of SMA to answer our six questions:
1. How are you personally – and as a company – coping with the corona crisis?
No doubt, the Corona crisis is a big challenge for the whole of humanity. But at the same time, I see the crisis as a chance to make the global economy more sustainable and resilient.
At SMA, we are feeling the effects of the crisis. But so far, we have managed to keep up our supply chain, production and customer care without interruption – and without recourse to state aid. I’m proud of this.
Privately, I take the precautions also very serious, as we are all part of this. I am looking forward to the time when we have the virus sufficiently under control and can enjoy bigger gatherings and hugs from dear friends again.
2. What are you enthusiastic about, apart from your company?
My family and friends. I spend every free minute with my wife and four kids and friends (to the extent that is currently possible). We really like to be outdoors, either at home at long walks with our dog or abroad, for example in Namibia, where I grew up. I also go swimming twice a week to stay fit.
3. What social media account or podcast makes your life better?
I’m very active on LinkedIn as I think, this is a good way to make contact with interesting people and to perceive and discuss all kinds of different opinions and standpoints on a wide variety of topics. I also enjoy some Apps for the recommendation of hiking tours and following sports.
4. Whom would you like to meet/have met?
When I studied in South Africa, I met Nelson Mandela twice. I was extremely impressed by this great personality, his openness and tolerance. A clear role model!
5. If you could change one thing in the world – other than the corona crisis, of course – what would it be?
Immediately stopping the climate crisis. Climate change is clearly the greatest threat to the survival of mankind. At SMA, we are doing our part to contribute to fight climate change. But it is essential to stop the temperature rise quickly. To do so, all parts of politics, administration and society need to work together. I will continue to devote my full energy to this endeavor.
6. What aspect of your company’s work are you most proud of?
That we are a really and truly sustainable company in all areas and all aspects. This is only possible, because all people at SMA are living the idea of sustainability every day. Which brings me to another aspect that I’m very proud of. And that’s the great team spirit at SMA. It feels very good to be part of this team. (mfo)
