Leaders of our industry:

Matthias Lapp of Lapp

Last time you got to meet Thomas Krausse of BlueSky Energy. Now it is the turn of Matthias Lapp of Lapp to answer our six questions:

1. How are you personally – and as a company – coping with the corona crisis?

Personally things are going very well. I’m spending a lot more time at home with my wife. That's nice - also because so many regular commitments have been cancelled. Of course, for everyone’s benefit I'm sticking to the Covid rules. But to be really honest I do miss being around friends and family and being able to give people a friendly hug.

As a company, we reacted very quickly and developed a concept to protect our employees’ health and maintain the company’s capabilities. Almost overnight, we switched to home working and digital meetings and launched online shops in sales companies that didn't yet have one. Everyone worked together. That was and is fantastic to see.

2. What are you enthusiastic about, apart from your company?

I am delighted that despite the less stringent measures adopted here in Germany we managed to come to terms with Covid relatively well. Coronavirus has shaken us up. Not only has digitalisation finally got some real momentum but also the issue of sustainability. I am seeing a rethink in our society and acceptance of the fact that we urgently need to change things. I’m really enthusiastic about that.

3. What social media account or podcast makes your life better?

None! In my private life I get on very well without them. But of course I appreciate that social media and podcasts are really important these days for keeping in contact with our customers all over the world. Our employees do a great job there.

4. Whom would you like to meet/have met?

There are three people I can name. One is Barack Obama, who I had the chance to meet at the Hanover Fair in 2016. But still on my wish list are the Dalai Lama, who has always dedicated himself to promoting peaceful dialogue between people, and of course Elon Musk. He is not just a visionary, he also manages to make his visions a reality. That’s really unique.

5. If you could change one thing in the world – other than the corona crisis, of course – what would it be?

We all share the same planet. If there were understanding and acceptance instead of envy among nations, we would be able to solve a lot of the world’s problems together.

6. What aspect of your company’s work are you most proud of?

I am exceptionally proud of the team spirit in our company. Everyone sticks together. We are OneLAPP, and that is actually put into action. This "we-can-do mentality" among all employees worldwide has proven to be very important in this time of Covid. It never ceases to impress me. (mfo)
