Leaders of our industry:

Owen Power of Enerpower

Last week you got to meet Heiko Schwarzburger of photovoltaik and pv Europe. Now it is the turn of Owen Power of Enerpower to answer our six questions:

1. How are you personally – and as a company – coping with the corona crisis?

On a personal level, myself and my family are coping well with the current situation that we are all faced with. It is important to remain positive when the news can seem over whelming for children. As a family, we have taken the time to enjoy the outdoors with many visits to cycle the wonderful Waterford Greenway. In Waterford, Ireland we are lucky to have so many amenities on our door step and taking our vacation at home enabled us to visit many of our local beaches such as including Passage East and Dunmore East.

As a company, the health of the Enerpower team is extremely important. We took action at the beginning of the Corona crisis and our team that could began working from home. As we are an essential service, some of our team continued to work in order to serve our clients who are on the front line providing essential services to the people of Ireland. Our clients include food producers, retailers and hospitals. Our number one aim during the crisis is to ensure that the Enerpower team are there for our clients when they call. Our number priority for our team of engineers and support team is health and safety at all times. Zoom meetings are now a regular occurrence for our team, as we took the time previously to implement robust IT Cloud systems, working from home was not a problem for our team.

2. What are you enthusiastic about, apart from your company?

I am extremely passionate about environmental issues. It is one of the main reasons why I love my job. The environmental advantages of choosing renewable energy for any business has been widely known for some time. Choosing this type of energy will help businesses to reduce their carbon emissions and the impact that fossil fuels are having on our environment. By helping to reduce the pollutants in our daily environment  we can inevitably impact the air that we all breath.

3. What social media account or podcast makes your life better?

There are some social media accounts that I follow, but they do not nessarily make my life better. I prefer a good book and being outdoors but occassionally I have listened to podcasts that focus on renewable energy and its technology. The Energy Transition Show is a good podcast for anyone that would like to learn more about the industry. A podcast led by the Sustainability Authority of Ireland, 180 degrees is also good and worth a listen.

4. Whom would you like to meet/have met?

I have been lucky to meet some of the best business leaders on an national and international level. There are many people who are challenging their companies and pushing forward with the transition to renewable energy.

Outside of this industry, I would love to meet David Attenborough, his passion for the animals and the environment that both they and us inhabit is extraordinary.

Looking towards business, I would also love to meet Michael O'Leary the CEO of Ryanair based in Dublin. He has a fiery reputation in business but I think that is what makes him most interesting, he has brought Ryanair to be the global success that it is today and I would love the opportunity to meet with him.

5. If you could change one thing in the world – other than the corona crisis, of course – what would it be?

If I have to choose just one thing to be changed within the world, it would be our reliance on fossil fuel. Overall our change to renewable energy will see benefits to our climate and our health.

6. What aspect of your company’s work are you most proud of?

We have great strong team at Enerpower that work together with our clients to help them meet their energy needs through renewable energy. I am proud that together we have gotten to work with many leading names including Tescos, IKEA, Lidl and many more to reduce C02 emissions. (mfo)
