Last week you got to meet Thomas Kercher of PMT. Now it is the turn of Tom Monaco of AD Energy Recruitment to answer our six questions:
1. How are you personally – and as a company – coping with the corona crisis?
Whilst it has been a really strange situation, we are all doing great. We are ahead of our ambitous plans and as busy as we have ever been. New customer engagement is increasing at a rate we didn‘t expect and the market is still very busy. We moved our full European business to work from home pretty seamlessly and the transition was easier than I thought.
On a personal level, it has been a big change, but I have embraced cycling again, and even some running! I do miss not travelling and meeting customers, and the unique feeling of rushing through the airport early in the morning. I am sure that will change again in the near future.
2. What are you enthusiastic about, apart from your company?
The whole Corona situation has shown that I actually don’t do a huge amount outside of work, which isn’t a bad thing as I love what I do. I am a keen cyclist and targeting 2500KM this year. I am also in the final stages of renovating my house which has been a long and difficult process – but it is now looking pretty good!
I am really passionate about working with great businesses and leaders. The feeling you get when you are part of growing amazing businesses is what gives me the job satisfaction day in day out, especially when you get to know the personal story they each have.
3. What social media account or podcast makes your life better?
Podcasts are something I have really starting using in the last 12 months. The BBC Wake up to money is fantastic in the commute to work as it focusses on business topics relevant today and really sets my mind for the day ahead. On a weekend, The Totally Golazzo Italian football podcast is a great way to remember the icons and legends of Italian football too!
Linkedin is a great business forum to keep up with all of the relevant news and topics in the Energy market too.
4. Whom would you like to meet/have met?
Roger Federer would be a great guy to meet, for me, the greatest sportsman of our generation. The way he has adapted his career over the years and still been successful is really inspiring. So, Roger if you are reading and have a few hours spare, just get in touch!
If Roger can’t make it, then Fabio Cannavaro would also be fantastic, a great leader and winner.
5. If you could change one thing in the world – other than the corona crisis, of course – what would it be?
The planet would be green overnight if we just stuck solar on every house – it really is that simple! It boggles my brain that we just can’t accelerate this now. We still aren’t harnessing the big yellow thing in the sky anywhere near as much as we should.
6. What aspect of your company’s work are you most proud?
Over the past decade, we have built numerous teams and hired many senior executives into great companies across Solar and Energy Storage, all over the world. To see the work the people we have placed have done, in some cases building teams of over 100 people and doubling / tripling turnover gives me such as sense of pride.
To be part of the SolarEdge journey is something that is uniquely special, I recall my first meeting with them when they were circa 100million USD turnover. To have been part of a journey helping them by leaders into 20 countries is something I have loved being a key part of.
AD Energy is an SME, but the fact we work with and are a key supplier to Global players across multiple sectors is an unbelievable feeling. On top of that, to see how my team has grown and developed over the past couple of years makes me very proud too. It is very satisfying when work allows my team to achieve the life goals they have outside of the office. (mfo)
