Last time you got to meet Matthias Lapp of Lapp. Now it is the turn of William Chen of Aleo Solar to answer our six questions:
1. Are you optimistic about the future for solar/renewables and why?
Yes I definitely am. The best thing about the energy transition it that everyone can do their bit. If enough people participate it can be an energy revolution, where solar plays a crucial role. For that I am optimistic. Entrepreneurs and homeowners alike want to produce their own solar energy; to contribute to combating climate change as well as to be independent from the big energy companies. This is also reinforced by the favorable electricity generation costs, as well as the trend towards electric cars and heat pumps.
2. What aspect of your company’s work are you most proud?
Obviously, I am very proud to be part of the solar energy revolution. This would not be possible without our team, which is enthusiastic and highly dedicated to the task. A lot of our employees work for aleo since the very beginning – for 20 years. This team has gone through a lot of up´s and down´s which the industry posed over the past two decades; always sticking together and making the best out of every situation. I am very proud to be part of this team.
3. What are you enthusiastic about, apart from your company?
I am father to three adorable boys who are twelve, nine and two years old.
Spending my time with them makes me incredibly happy. They immediately help me to relax after a stressful day and help me to not take matters to seriously but to see them through kid’s eye.
4. Whom would you like to meet/have met?
I would really like to have met Nikola Tesla as I admire his visionary spirit and his innovative mind. His serious interest in innovations was sparked when he was only 17 and he often worked without creating models or drawings. The entire creative process of an invention happened in his mind. I find that incredibly inspiring.
5. What social media account or podcast would you recommend?
There are a few podcasts I like on environmental topics. Recently I am listening to “yaleclimateconnections” as well as “What it´s earth”.
6. If you could change one thing in the world, what would it be?
If I could snap my fingers and free the world of Covid, I would immediately do so. (mfo)
