The Goonhilly Earth Station uses the solar energy to drive the satellite antennae scanning the sky and following the satellites in the orbit. Goonhilly is famous because it transmitted the first TV pictures from satellites in 1962. It transferred electronic bands from the fights of Muhammed Ali and the moon landing of Apollo 11.
Today it is am major teleport for Olympic Games and big entertainment from the other side of the planet. The station is situated in Cornwall at the southern tip of the British Island. (HS)
