SolarPower Europe will provide introductory courses about the job opportunities in the solar sector in partnership with Grow with Google. These courses will be available in multiple languages across Europe.
Katerina Haverlant, Director of Marketing for Google EMEA, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with SolarPower Europe as part of our investment in green skills training for Europe by driving awareness of the wide range of career opportunities in the solar industry."
Most solar jobs are created locally
Walburga Hemetsberger, CEO of SolarPower Europe, said: “Solar is one of the most job-intensive and job-creating energy technologies – for every Terawatt of power produced, solar currently creates 1,100 jobs in the EU. Most solar jobs in Europe are created locally and can therefore contribute to long-term socioeconomic development in line with a Just Transition and Green Recovery.
Shine a spotlight on the vast and diverse job opportunities
Hemetsberger added: “Currently, we see a lack of skilled EU workers in clean energy technologies, which is quickly becoming a critical bottleneck that could hamper the deployment of solar and renewables. For these reasons, we are excited to partner with Google to shine a spotlight on the vast and diverse job opportunities in the European solar sector.
According to our recent study, ‘100% Renewable Europe’ conducted with Finland’s LUT university, solar has the potential to create up to 4 million green jobs in Europe by 2050. We look forward to fulfilling this potential and thus contributing to the objectives of the European Green Deal with the support of Grow with Google.” (hcn)
