Topic of the Week: Commercial storage

Intilion supplies four grid storage systems to start-up Purpel Energy

Construction of the four systems in northern Germany is scheduled to begin in autumn 2024. In addition to delivery, installation and commissioning, Intilion will also take care of integration into the grid and provide support with a comprehensive service package after commissioning. Purpel Energy will market the energy from the storage systems on the balancing energy and spot markets.

Energy markets increasingly require flexibility

This is because the expansion of green electricity is resulting in increasingly volatile electricity production, which does not always correspond to energy consumption. As electricity prices are based on supply and demand, we are already seeing strongly fluctuating prices on the market. The energy system and the energy markets increasingly require flexibility.

"Battery storage systems can stabilise the electricity grid by providing balancing energy in the event of frequency fluctuations," says Intilion Manager Manuel Schmidt. On the other hand, storage units can be used to exploit price differences on the electricity market and generate income by storing electricity when prices are more cost-effective. (mfo)
