Enercity builds solar plant on the premises of German airport

Hanover Airport and Enercity want to develop previously unused areas on the airport site. The area around the northern runway is to be used for photovoltaics. Solar systems will be trialled for three years. The test system has already been installed and put into operation.

Several variants were used for the substructure of the pilot project in order to gain insights into plant growth under the racks. The test system covers around 1,250 square metres, with an installed output of around 120 kilowatts. The system saves more than 43 tonnes of carbon dioxide.

The area is located within the security zone of the airport. It will be regularly mapped in the coming years. If the results are positive, the expansion will be examined. (HS/mfo)
