The international research platform Solar Energy in Urban Planning has developed an interactive map with currently 34 showcase projects of sustainable city planning. It wants to reach architects and energy consultants faced with the task of developing new urban areas with a modern energy plan or of redeveloping already existing city quarters. After all: The major installations for generating renewables are mostly being developed on inexpensive land far away from urban centres. But cities and towns must become forerunners when it comes to using this energy and establishing solar energy generation where it is being consumed.
