The PV installation will have a capacity of 7 MW and will cover an area of 33,300 sqm, the equivalent of five football fields, making it the largest PV rooftop project to date for both companies. The project will be executed by BayWa r.e.’s Dutch subsidiary GroenLeven.
The durable and proven Novotegra mounting system, developed by BayWa r.e., guarantees optimum use of the rooftop surface. A flat roof model has been installed which allows for best-in-class load distribution and high installation speed thanks to the click-fit function. Additionally, the innovative 1500V voltage class has been used to optimise energy output.
Achieving sustainability goals
Kerstin Schmidt, Managing Director of BayWa r.e. Power Solutions GmbH, explains the background of the partnership: “Both Goodman and BayWa r.e. share a joint vision when it comes to achieving our sustainability goals. We are proud to support Goodman in delivering large-scale rooftop solar installations across numerous logistics sites in various countries in Europe.”
Lien Standaert, Country Manager Belgium and the Netherlands, of Goodman: “Our goal is to have 400 MW of solar PV installed globally by 2025, with Continental Europe representing almost a quarter of that. This will enable us to fully power our customers’ operational needs with renewable energy and help them address their own sustainability targets. The solar PV installation on the rooftop of Alblasserdam Logistics Centre is a key highlight of the many sustainability features within the development. The installation will produce far more than the energy needs of our customers within the distribution centre.
Important role for multinational companies in the energy transition
The excess green energy will be injected into the grid and made available locally for private consumers. It is estimated that the PV installation will prevent the production of 3,770 tons of CO2 emissions, the equivalent of the emissions produced by approximately 1,900 households annually. BayWa r.e. is one of our key partners in bringing us a step closer to achieving our sustainability goals.”
