The new GF series of contactors up to 1,500 volt DC are the first to meet the new IEC utilization category DC-PV3 for solar applications and expand the range of solutions in the 1,500 volt DC voltage environment. According to ABB, it is expected that by the end of 2020 almost all new solar power plants with a capacity of more than one megawatt will be 1,500 V DC systems. The higher voltage architecture enables the construction of smaller electrical infrastructure systems and therefore results in significant efficiency gains.

ABB's new GF contactors can bidirectionally switch loads up to 1,050 ampere and 750 volts DC per pole, enabling the control of large parts of a solar power plant. By remotely and automatically feeding energy into the grid or battery storage systems, the contactors support strategies to improve the energy efficiency of photovoltaic systems. (mfo)
