Spain: Subsidy-free 175 MW solar park almost finished

The on-site team is currently installing up to 10,000 panels per day. If all goes according to plan, BayWa r.e. will complete the construction of the landmark project by the end of the year.

Don Rodrigo is our first project of this magnitude. The challenge is to optimally coordinate the logistics and installation on site. Furthermore, we recently had to contend with uncharacteristically long periods of rain for the region. Nevertheless, we are still right on schedule,” comments Benedikt Ortmann, Managing Director at BayWa r.e. Solar Projects GmbH.

15-year PPA with Statkraft

With a total capacity of 175 MWp, more than 300 GWh of solar power will be generated in future from an area of around 265 hectares – this corresponds to the annual consumption of roughly 93,000 ordinary Spanish households. Don Rodrigo will be the first solar park of this size in Europe to manage completely subsidy-free. A 15-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Norwegian energy group Statkraft for the sale of the generated solar energy was finalised in spring. (HCN)
