A hybrid solar station for the Chernihiv Regional Hospital

This is already the fifth project Menlo Electric has implemented in Ukraine together with the foundation. Previously, they opened similar stations at the Chernihiv Regional Children's Hospital, Chernihiv schools No. 3 and No. 19, and Bucha Lyceum No. 3. Menlo Electric provided 108 photovoltaic modules for the Chernihiv Regional Hospital.

The hospital provides medical care to the adult population of the entire region. This hospital is the only one in the region that provides high-tech medical care for serious illnesses. The hospital serves 980,369 patients. There are 16 intensive care and surgical departments with modern equipment in the hospital that require constant electricity supply. The hospital premises were significantly damaged by missile strikes.

The solar system, consisting of 108 solar panels with a capacity of 40 kW and an energy storage system with a capacity of 85.2 kW·h, will power critical equipment in the surgical department in the hospital's main building. This system allows for autonomous operation to cover electricity consumption in the surgical building and connect critical equipment for specific consumers, namely:

•      Emergency lighting, operating room for the thoracic surgery department;

•      Control room, air conditioners for the computer tomography cabinet;

•      Interventional cardiology and reperfusion therapy departments with intensive care beds.

The expected savings for the hospital on electricity costs will be approximately EUR 4,430 annually, with a reduction in CO2 emissions of 1,139 tons over the system's 25 years of operation.

"The opening of a solar station at the Chernihiv Regional Hospital is another step towards realizing our mission of ensuring energy independence for Ukrainian medical institutions. This is the fifth project that embodies the ideals of the "Energy to Power Your Future" corporate social responsibility program jointly with the "Energy Act for Ukraine" initiative. We continue to work together to make the country's medical facilities resilient to today's energy challenges," commented Olexandr Piskun, General Manager of Menlo Electric in Ukraine.

"The Chernihiv Regional Hospital is our 4th object in the Chernihiv region and the 8th within the overall foundation's work since 2022. Within a month of the station's operation, the hospital saved up to 10,000 hryvnias, which is equivalent to the cost of two cardiographs. Over the year, the hospital will be able to purchase about 35 such cardiographs due to energy savings. Our stations guarantee the availability of electricity regardless of shelling and help hospitals spend less on utility bills and more on hospital development and patient care," said Yuliana Onyshchuk, founder, and executive director of the "Energy Act for Ukraine" Foundation.
