Innovative micro-inverters

Solarnative files for bankruptcy and is looking for new investors

The shortage of cash is primarily due to the chaotic market situation. Chinese suppliers have built up huge capacities when it comes to inverters – including micro-inverters. The markets are not absorbing them quickly enough, and dealers are sitting on full inventory. That is why investors are currently reluctant to invest in new ideas.

Powerstick - a revolutionary innovation

In 2019, Solarnative began mass production of a microinverter that fits into the module frame. Because the module manufacturers are also under enormous economic pressure, there were delays in the implementation of premium modules.

Solarnative currently has around 130 employees. The Powerstick microinverter was developed by Henk Oldenkamp, who has been working on efficient inverters for the solar industry for more than three decades.

Huge leap in solar technology

The power stick fits into the module frame and promises a huge leap in simplifying solar technology and increasing efficiency. The product is mature, production and sales have been professionally set up. “We have reached a point where we are dependent on a new major investor or buyer in order to actually bring the smallest PV inverter in the world onto the rooftop market,” sums up Dr. Julian Mattheis, Managing Director of Solarnative GmbH.

The bankruptcy is intended to create time to bring the previously positive discussions to a successful conclusion. Even though the market is currently difficult, Solarnative's innovation is one of the most promising technological advances in the solar industry. Several patents secure the development, and the power stick is also approved for the US market.

On a silver plate

This is how Solarnative presents itself on a silver platter. The investment should pay off within a few years. In Hofheim near Frankfurt, next to a warehouse with several thousand pre-produced inverters, there is a factory that is ready and running and can produce 50,000 power sticks a year. “The feedback from the market is overwhelming,” reports Julian Matheis. “From wholesalers to small installation companies, there is great enthusiasm for the advantages of our technology. We expect well-filled order books as soon as we can give the go-ahead for our rooftop system.” The money from an investor is needed to ramp up production and sell the product worldwide. (HS)
