It includes, for example, information on the energy policy goals, the development of the electricity markets and grids, and the expansion of renewable energies. By 2028, for example, France wants to expand solar capacity from 13.1 gigawatts to 35.1 to 44 gigawatts.

Elysee Palace puts on the brakes
These figures alone make it clear that French politicians show little commitment when it comes to expanding renewable energies. After all, tripling the share of solar power can hardly be called ambitious. At present, photovoltaics cover about three per cent of France's electricity demand.
Macron wants a renaissance of nuclear power
During the election campaign, the old and now new president Emmanuel Macron announced a renaissance of nuclear power. Nuclear power covers about 70 per cent of the electricity demand in France. Because the ageing nuclear power plants have to reduce their output in summer due to overheating of the cooling water, the French buy dirty electricity from German coal-fired power plants.

Damaged reactors in need of repair
In winter, they cannot meet the rising demand from electric heating and e-mobility because numerous nuclear power plants are at least partially shut down due to damage. On top of that, it is completely unclear who will pay for the enormous costs of dismantling and disposing of the radioactive residues. (HS/mfo)
