As many as 23,200 new solar PV installations have been connected during the first quarter of the year, an increase of 160 percent compared to the same period last year. In March alone, 9,700 installations were connected. The previous monthly record is from October 2022, when 5,700 installations were connected.
The number of pre-notifications in the first quarter increased by 66% compared to Q1 2022, to 28,400. All figures are estimates based on data from Ellevio, E.ON and Vattenfall.
Energy tax on self-consumption for large PV installations still a hurdle
„This is gratifying but not particularly surprising given the recent period of very high electricity prices. Primarily private individuals are now doing everything they can to reduce their electricity costs by using PV systems and batteries. "If the energy tax on self-consumed electricity from large photovoltaic installations were removed, even the larger property owners would install PV modules on their roofs," says Anna Werner, CEO of the Swedish Solar Energy Association (Svensk Solenergi).

„Electricity network companies are the gate keepers of all power producers. The fact that they are now gearing up and increasing the connection rate of the country's still smallest power source is very positive for the electricity mix, which becomes more diversified, more locally produced and continues to displace electricity on the continent from power sources with higher carbon dioxide emissions per kWh of electricity produced“, says Anna Werner.
