The organiser of The smarter E Europe trade fair, Solar Promotion GmbH, is still accepting applications for the innovation awards until 28 February 2022. The smarter E Award honours outstanding solutions and projects related to photovoltaics, storage units and building energy. The focus is on innovative solutions for solar systems on open spaces and in buildings, but also on projects for the integration of charging technology for electric vehicles, electricity storage projects and solutions for energy management. Manufacturers of photovoltaic components, storage units or heating systems, project planners of solar and storage systems are invited to submit their solutions and projects.
Prizes for innovative solutions
The prizes will be awarded in two different categories. The focus is on intelligent and networked concepts and solutions for the efficient generation, storage and use of solar power. In the intelligent renewable energy category, innovative concepts, business models or solutions in the field of sector coupling are awarded. In the latter case, the focus is not only on the storage of surplus solar power in the form of heat or hydrogen, but also on the use of vehicles as storage units, new digitalisation approaches and solutions for grid operation and electricity trading.
Outstanding projects receive awards
Another prize will be awarded in the category of outstanding projects. These are concrete photovoltaic, storage unit and heating systems that were built between February 2020 and February 2022. They should show the innovative application of the products that the manufacturers are presenting at the fair and have presented in the past years. The spectrum here ranges from building applications to ground-mounted projects, from solutions for the intelligent integration of photovoltaics into the grid to off-grid island systems. Outstanding projects relating to the charging infrastructure for electromobility can also apply here.
Intersolar and EES Awards await their winners
At the same time, the application phase for the Intersolar Awards is still running. Here the trade fair organiser awards prizes for new photovoltaic products. The focus is not only on the development of new module technologies, but also on the other components needed for a solar system. These include inverters and other power electronics components, mounting systems, energy managers and actually building-integrated solutions.

Another prize is awarded for outstanding solutions in the field of renewable energy storage. The EES Award is open to storage manufacturers as well as developers of battery management systems and recycling solutions.
Trade fair participants can apply
Exhibitors at the trade fairs that are united in The smarter E can take part in the competition. These include Intersolar, EES Europe, Power2Drive and EM Power. In the category "outstanding projects", owners of photovoltaic and storage systems can also apply for the prize, even if they are not exhibitors at the trade fair.
