From 11. to 13. May 2022 1,350 exhibitors and more than 50,000 specialized visitors from all over the world are expected on the Munich fairground.
Almost every:r sixth homeowner:in in Germany is planning to install a solar system to generate electricity and/or heat in the next 12 months. This is the result of a recent YouGov representative survey conducted on behalf of BSW at the beginning of May among more than 1,000 building owners. The most important of the reasons cited for the surge in interest are rising energy prices (55 percent), the desire for greater supply independence (52 percent) and the climate crisis (44 percent).
Recruitment of new skilled workers
"This is an important prerequisite for achieving the solar and climate protection targets recently raised by the German government," enthuses BSW CEO Carsten Körnig. "The solar industry is currently investing massively in the expansion of new manufacturing capacities and the recruitment of new skilled workers. Solar companies are doing this in the confidence that federal policy will implement its plan to quickly remove remaining investment barriers now."
The German government aims to increase installed photovoltaic capacity from just over 60 gigawatts (GW) at present to at least 215 GW by 2030 and to at least 400 GW by 2040. Their share of electricity consumption is expected to grow from around 10 percent at present to over 25 percent in the next eight years alone. Climate Protection Minister Robert Habeck announced a "solar acceleration package" at the beginning of the year. Its centerpiece, the reform of the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG), will be introduced in the Bundestag this Thursday.
High interest of companies and farmers
Interest in solar technology has also recently increased significantly among companies. 22 percent of companies are planning to install a PV system on their company roof in the next three years. This was the result of a representative YouGov survey conducted by BSW in January among more than 500 decision-makers.
Interest in their own solar power harvesting is particularly high among farmers. In Germany, solar cells are already installed on every tenth company roof, and 60 percent of full-time farms already have a solar system. According to the German Farmers' Association, a further six percent intend to install a solar power system in the next six months. (hcn)
