Solar module production

Solarwatt more than doubles turnover

The system provider Solarwatt sold almost 50,000 solar systems in the first three quarters of this year. With 24,500 units, the Dresden-based company sold about half of these systems in Germany. In comparison: In the first three quarters of last year Solarwatt sold about 27,000 systems, 13,000 of them in Germany.

Massive increase in incoming orders

Thus, the Dresden-based company doubled its turnover in the first nine months of this year compared to the same period last year to 250 million euros. The successful course will also continue in the last three months of this year.

This is because Solarwatt is expected to sell about 80,000 photovoltaic systems in the whole year. "We are currently experiencing a massive increase in incoming orders compared to the previous year. In view of this, we will significantly exceed our target figures for this year," Detlef Neuhaus, Managing Director of Solarwatt, holds out the prospect.

500 megawatts of module output delivered

In September 2022 alone, Solarwatt delivered solar modules with a total output of 75 megawatts - a new record in the company's almost 30-year history. In total, solar modules with a total output of around 500 megawatts were delivered to Solarwatt customers in Europe in the first three quarters, 270 megawatts of which were delivered in Germany. In the same period last year, Solarwatt installed modules with a total output of 275 megawatts on European roofs, 140 megawatts of which were in Germany.

Solarwatt's market share for newly installed solar systems with an output of up to ten kilowatts was more than 20 per cent overall in the past months. For larger systems with an output of up to 30 kilowatts, Solarwatt had a market share of more than 15 per cent.

Challenges in the market

But the Dresden-based company is not spared the current challenges either. "We are facing two bottlenecks in particular: securing the purchase of materials and the limited installation capacity in the trade," explains Detlef Neuhaus. "We have to be urgently careful that the good starting position of the market does not turn into the opposite, because people have to wait a long time for their solar system," he warns.

Sector coupling completed

Solarwatt has meanwhile built up a network of 8,500 craftsmen throughout Europe who sell and install the products of the Dresden-based company. In addition, Solarwatt maintains close partnerships with cooperating companies. In spring this year, for example, the company announced a technical cooperation with heating technology manufacturer Stiebel Eltron.

"For us, there is no question that the entire energy supply must be viewed holistically - namely in the form of an intelligent linking of the worlds of electricity, mobility and heat. Ultimately, the change towards climate neutrality will only succeed through sector coupling," says Detlef Neuhaus, explaining the cooperation in the field of heat pumps with Stiebel Eltron. (su/mfo)
