The carports made by Almaden from Karlsfeld near Munich are light and spacious based on the fact that they fitted with Almaden’s semi-transparent glass glass modules. These can let up to 40 per cent of the light come through and, because they are bifacial, they will of course also generate power from the reflected light. The aluminium frames are assembled in such a way that they are totally water proof and are sturdy enough to withstand up to 2,400 pascal of wind load and more than twice that in snow loads.
Because their weight distribution is very well-balanced, the foundations only require a fairly small foot print. The frame is quite easy to assemble and there is the option of integrating LED lighting strips in the aluminium profiles. The base unit has space for one vehicle, but can be extended through optimised connection parts. Further, one of the highlights at Almaden’s stand for this year’s Intersolar in Munich was also a wooden version of the carport that is machined using CNC technology and thus is just as easy to assemble.
