2 MW of AEG solar modules were successfully deployed in what at the time of amounted to the largest solar rooftop in Cuba consisting of a 1.25 MW rooftop system and two “twin” rooftops of 605 kW each. Six months into the project, the three rooftops’ production helps making operations in the province of Artemisa more sustainable.
Monitoring system integrated
The project was developed and executed by the Italian General Contractor CR Technology Systems (CRTS) to the specifications of their local subsidiary in Cuba. The installation, consisting of a main system of 1.25 MW and two “twin” rooftops with 605 kW each, is built on top of warehouses which are used for storage of the goods in the province of Artemisa. The plant, which feeds the power exceeding the building’s consumption to the local network when the buildings demand drops, features high quality AEG 255W polycrystalline solar modules supplied by Solar Solutions GmbH and the Scada monitoring system Sun Vigilant developed by CRTS for the energy control of the system.
Installation in only four days
The installation started at the end of August 2017 and the first 1.25 MW were commissioned by the following month; the construction time was affected by the passage of Hurricane Irma, which swept the area at windspeeds up to 180 km/h. In spite of the havoc caused by the hurricane, the Artemisa province was only marginally affected and the installation was successfully concluded in four days thanks to the great synergy between the Italian contractor and the local team of installers.
260W polycrystalline solar modules
From the very start, CRTS were positively impressed by the quality of the AEG panels, as the system reached its predicted production capacity in the early morning only two hours of the startup phase. The outstanding achievements of the plant paved the way for the completion of the other two rooftop plants with 605 kW each, which were installed respectively by the end of September and the end of November 2017, both plants utilised AEG 260W polycrystalline solar modules and CRTS´s Sun Vigilant monitoring system.
