Located in Towcester, around 15 miles south of Northampton, the project was completed in spring 2015 and was connected to the public grid under the ROC scheme. The plant is financed by Ärzteversorgung Westfalen-Lippe (ÄVWL), a German pension fund. The Homestead solar project has now been transferred to the new owner.
130 megawatts in the PV project pipeline
Matthias Taft, Member of the Board of BayWa AG, responsible for the energy business, explained: “I am glad to announce that we will be connecting to the grid around 130 megawatts in several projects within the next month.”
Detlef Schreiber, CEO of CEE added: “Together with BayWa r.e. we expanded our PV portfolio in UK to 60 megawatts.” In total CEE now owns up to 528 megawatt solar power in projects worldwide.
Energy for McDonald’s
Last Decembre BayWa had already sold the solar plant at Aston Clinton in Greater London area (24 megawatts). The company was able to secure a long term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the project. This PPA provides for sale of the power generated at a fixed price over a period of 20 years. The purchaser is once again McDonald’s Restaurant Ltd. The company has 1,250 UK restaurants.
BayWa r.e. remains highly active in the British market. To date, the company has constructed solar and wind farms in the UK with a total capacity of over 260 MW. The Vine Farm solar park (45 MW), currently under construction in eastern England, is the largest single project that BayWa r.e. has accomplished in the solar sector to date. (HS)
