DHYBRID has been selected by the French EPC company and main contractor Omexom, the energy brand of the VINCI Energies Group, for these projects because of their scalable technology platform as well as the global track record in hybrid installations.
The total project will generate enough power to cover the annual needs of 140,000 people and will avoid atmospheric CO2 emissions amounting to as much as 19,000 tonnes per year, equivalent to the emissions of a car driven 135 million kilometres. It will be part of a 26.8 million euro investment consisting of the hybrid sites and an additional 15 MW PV-installation and will be financed by the German development bank KfW and Senelec, the national electricity provider of Senegal.
A great milestone
The plants will enable Senegal to provide power for very isolated locations and to diversify its energy mix. The project sites will be distributed among four large regions: The Saloum Islands and the Thiès region in the western part of the country and the eastern Tambakounda and Kolda regions. DHYBRID will supply their proprietary Universal Power Platform (UPP) – a modular and manufacturer independent energy management system (EMS) – as well as the SCADA solution that will manage, control and monitor the interaction between the diesel generators, PV inverter and energy storage system to minimise the electricity costs and CO2 emissions. In addition to that, DHYBRID will supply container-based lithium-ion energy storage systems, automatic generator controllers and the main electricity distribution panels.
