Digital Solar & Storage Start-up Award:

Prize for Austrian start-up with innovative energy generating system

During Day 1 of the online SolarPower Summit, the third annual Digital Solar & Storage Start-up Awards crowning EET as the winner. All start-ups active in the field of digital solar and storage with fewer than 20 employees were eligible to apply, with the winner receiving €5,000 (sponsored by Enerparc), free coaching from BeeFounders, an exhibition spot at The Smarter E. All four finalists received one year of free membership at SolarPower Europe.

The Austrian start-up EET (Efficienct Energy Technology) impressed the jury with their SolMate product, an innovative solar mini-system that can be plugged into a power socket and store energy from solar panels. EET also produces panels that can be installed on rooftops, gardens, balconies, and windows.

The challenge of raising awareness

Jan Senn, CMO & Sales at EET, responding to the win, said: “We are incredibly happy about the award and will of course make the best possible use of the prizes to bring people closer to the sun. Probably the biggest hurdle for our start-up is the creation of awareness that solar power can be produced on the balcony and directly stored there or used immediately, without a lot of bureaucracy and without construction at home or a technician on site. We are convinced that the solar revolution can only succeed if everyone is offered the necessary means, and one of those necessary remedies is our SolMate product.”

Michael Schmela, Executive Advisor and Head of Market Intelligence of SolarPower Europe, commented: “The Digital Solar & Storage Startup Awards is interested in solutions – new technologies, new business models, new services. These solutions help us reach our overarching goal of achieving a 100% renewables-based energy system in Europe by 2050. Entrepreneurs are crucial to the European solar ecosystem, and all four finalists are working on innovative tools that will push the sector forward. The winner of the 3rd annual award, EET, stood out with their attractive and inventive SolMate product, a home PV storage system that can be plugged into your power socket. This product will help to expand the residential solar market, and is a very stylish solution for prosumers. I look forward to seeing how the company develops!” (mfo)
