Floating solar:

Baywa r.e. launches largest floating facilities outside Asia

Together these two installations will generate enough electricity to supply more than 20,000 households. In third place comes Baywa r.e.'s floating solar park in Bomhofsplas with 27.4 megawatts. With the completion of the two new projects, the Group's solar floating portfolio in Europe currently comprises 11 projects, more than 180 megawatts and over 300,000 solar modules. Baywa r.e. sees itself as the market leader for floating PV systems - at least outside China.

Community funds set up in the regions

One advantage of floating photovoltaic systems is that they can make an important contribution to the energy transition on unused water areas without competing with other land uses. Both Sellingen and Uivermeertjes were built on disused sand pits. In consultation with the local population, the builders have ensured that the parks are integrated into the landscape. In addition, community funds have been established in both regions to support ongoing sustainable projects and investments in the local area.

The facilities in Sellingen and Uivermeertjes were also designed with particular attention to preserving biodiversity and water quality, as well as for minimal impact on the lake's surroundings, Baywa informs. Both parks were built at the deepest point of the lake to protect the flora and fauna on the shores. The solution used there does not cause any negative impact on the surrounding environment, as shown by recent studies by the Hanze University of Applied Sciences and initial research results by Buro Bakker/AKTB.
