Churches, community centers, parish houses and ecclesiastical education institutions in France are equipped with a photovoltaic system on the roofs in a broad-based program. A dozen bishoprics have joined the initiative. All projects are developed and funded by the Société Patrimoine et Environnement.
Standardized systems
Equivalent, coordinated components are used in each case. The modules are supplied by the German manufacturer Axitec, the in-roof rack systems GSE in cooperation with Krannich Solar. The inverters come from the French production plant of the Chinese manufacturer Huawei. The monitoring is carried out by Tescol. Over hundred systems with around 9 kW each and a total output of around 1 MW have been already installed.
Inspired by the Pope
The initiative takes up the inspiration of Pope Francis from 2015. In his Encyclical on Ecology, the Pope had given a detailed opinion on environmental and climate protection. Going from the conclusion that the earth, our common house, evolves into an immeasurable dump, he demanded a new dialogue on the way in which we want to shape the future of our planet. He called global warming one of the most important current challenges to mankind and called for the decarbonization of the world economy. (PF/HCN)
