“We see a growing demand for quality oriented solar rooftop installations, especially for commercial and agricultural applications in Poland”, Ella Carpenter of Sunfixings says. “Thankfully Specjalisci Energetczni have developed a significant demand for quality products working with Sunfixings to present our unique selling points to the solar market in Poland, such as, No Height Restrictions due to the market leading technical data derived from extensive PanelClaw wind tunnel testing, on time logistics, efficiency, and speed of installation and warranty sign off on all projects”, Carpenter stresses.
5 kW in 35 minutes
Since the 2nd quarter 2017, Specjaliści Energetyczni have installed more than 250kw of the Sunfixings Light Tegra flat roof, low ballasted solar PV mounting System. “They are to be commended for using correct torque installation tools and values, their quality of cable management and on their efficiency of installation, 0- 5kW in 35 minutes”, Carpenter reports.
Growing commercial and agricultural rootop PV market
“By sharing combined experience and resources, Sunfixings and Specjalisci Energetczni are very excited with respect to future developments in Poland, particularly in the commercial and agricultural roof top PV markets. Poland are a leading manufacturing base for many international companies and are a key element of Europe’s food production. By deploying Tier 1 products and quality installation, Sunfixings and Specjalisci Energetczni will offer the manufacturing and food production markets much reduced energy costs. The total pipeline so far is 5MW”, she says.
Net metering up to 40 kW
The Polish government is currently supporting solar through new metering (up to 40kW) and an auction mechanism for large- scale projects over 40kW. The two schemes, which replace the green certificate mechanism, were introduced with a new renewable energy law in July 2016. Under the net metering scheme, operators of PV systems up to 10kW are refunded 80% for each kilowatt they inject into the electricity system, while owners of PV installations ranging in size between 10-40kW are refunded 70%. As for the auction mechanism, the government held the first auction in late December 2016. Through the tender, a total of 82 renewable energy projects up to 1MW were selected, the majority for MW sized PV plants. The highest bid was PLN 408 ($100.2)/MWh and the lowest PLN 253.5 ($62.2)/MWh.
EU renewables target as a push
According to Polish Energy Policy 2050 solar PV capacity in the country will rise to 15.83GW by 2050. Mandatory targets of the directive 2009/28/EC on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources set by EU for Poland are 15% by 2020. Despite the provisions on the key share of lignite and hard collar in the energy mix, Poland will continue to increase the share of renewables also after 2020. Poland’s government has decided that the share of energy from renewable sources in the end consumption (of electricity, heat and fuels) will have to grow also after 2020, a direction previously opposed by the cabinet led by Donald Tusk (which, in turn, was against Poland’s current Energy Policy until 2030). The factor that tipped the scales in favour of this new approach was the adoption of the EU climate and energy package for 2021-2030 where the EU set a renewables target for the whole block at 27% by end 2030.
