The record-breaking cell consists of a thin perovskite top cell on silicon as the bottom cell. The silicon substrate is a heterojunction tandem cell made of crystalline silicon with an amorphous coating. At 258.15 square centimetres, the area corresponds to a commercial M4 cell.

In the laboratory, the manufacturer had achieved an efficiency of 29.5 per cent in December 2020, albeit from a small test cell. In Brandenburg an der Havel, 70 employees work in the factory, which was launched in 2017. It is eagerly awaited when market-ready modules with the novel cells will arrive. (HS/mfo)
