Jinko Solar has increased the efficiency of monocrystalline PERC solar cells to 22.78 percent. The efficiency has been confirmed by the independent test laboratory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. So far, the manufacturer from Shanghai had achieved an efficiency of 22.04 percent. Thus, the company had already produced a solar module from pilot production with a power of 356.5 watts from 60 cells. In mass production, however, the efficiency is currently at a maximum of 300 watts.
However, with the new solar cell, Jinko Solar has broken the record of the module and cell manufacturer Longi Solar, which has only survived for two days. The company from Central China's Xi'an has increased the efficiency of monocrystalline PERC cells to 22.71 percent. As early as April this year, Longi Solar presented an efficiency of 22.13 percent for this technology and increased to 22.43 percent in August. This is already the third increase in efficiency within one year.
23 percent threshold in view
The current efficiency has been confirmed by Fraunhofer ISE's calibration laboratory and is, according to the company, the current record value. Longi Solar wants to transfer this into mass production. Li Hua, Vice-President of Longi for research and development, is optimistic that this will succeed. With the new solar cells Longi Solar wants to increase the solar module efficiency to at least 22 percent. This is to be achieved by the end of this year. The company plans to launch a corresponding product with an output of 340 to 345 watts from 60 cells for the coming year. In addition, the research and development department in Xi'an is now looking at the 23 percent threshold, which is to be cracked in the near future. (HCN/SU)
