According to Sharp, the difficult conditions in the European solar market are the reason for the termination of Sharp Energy Solutions Europe (SESE)'s business activities after more than 30 years. The sharp decline in prices of photovoltaic modules in recent months has already led to numerous insolvencies of other solar companies.

The solar division is part of Sharp Electronics GmbH in Hamburg. The last day of business for SESE will be March 31, 2025. “Until then, all ongoing projects, orders and requests for quotations for solar modules and related products will continue to be processed by SESE,” the company explained.
Sharp Electronics will be responsible for warranty claims
From April 1, 2025, Sharp Electronics GmbH will continue to provide customer service. “All product and performance warranties remain valid for the duration of the warranty period and will be serviced and managed by Sharp Electronics GmbH,” the company said. The decision would not affect Sharp's other business areas in Europe or its remaining solar business. According to the Japanese technology company Sharp Corporation, it employs over 46,000 people worldwide. Around 30 employees will be affected by the closure of SESE.

Sharp has been a pioneer in photovoltaics since the late 1950s. Last fall, SESE launched its new TOPCon bifacial glass-glass solar module with 610 W output for large-scale rooftop and ground-mounted installations on the European market. In December 2024, the company launched its new B2B online store for solar panels in Europe. (hcn)
