The new solar array, which was completed on two roofs at the Gradestraße waste treatment plant in October, has an installed capacity of 99.12 kilowatts and consists of 354 polycrystalline modules. As much as possible of the forecast annual yield of around 92,000 kilowatt hours is to be consumed on site.
"With the new plant, we are not only reducing our carbon footprint by a further 60 tonnes per year, but are also harvesting our own green electricity from the roof. And that at a cost that is significantly below market price," says Anton Keppler, project manager at Berlin Waste Management.
The Berlin Municipal Utility will also be responsible for maintaining the installation on behalf of Berlin Waste Management. This will include remote monitoring, regular checks and eliminating any faults that hopefully will not occur. (mfo)
