By minus 4.2 percent whole sale spot market prices for crystalline solar modules from Europe went down since beginning of January 2017, according to PV Exchange. Chinese crystalline solar modules price went down by 4.1 percent, prices of solar panels made in Japan and Korea even by 4.1 percent. Prices of solar panels from Southeast Asia and Taiwan only declined by 2.5 percent.
Installation rush in China could lead to higher prices
Trend Force sees an installation rush in China, by far the biggest PV market worldwide, until end of June, which could lead to increased solar panel prices globally. GTM Research expects a record high for solar PV installation in 2017 of 85 Gigawatts, plus nine percent compared to 2016 (78 GW).
Europe is lagging behind the Chinese, Indian, Japanese and U.S. PV market development. Though in countries like Germany, industry associations are expecting a double digit growth of new solar PV installations, compared to 2016 (1.52 GW capacity addition). Distributors like Krannich Solar are also reporting about strong business. This could also lead to higher solar panels prices.
Standard polycrystalline modules below 0.36 Euro/W
Standard polycrystalline solar modules have been sold below 0.36 Euro/W per container last week in Europe for installers. The minimum import price for Chinese modules, who are affected by the EU trade tariffs will stay at 0.46 Euro/W the next five months, the EU-Commission announced recently. Though the leading manufactures already left the Minimum Price Undertaking (MIP), since they are producing their solar panels for the European market in countries outside of China like Vietnam. (hcn)
