The PV sector is still relatively new, almost 91% of the people that are working in photovoltaic sector have been in this field for less than 12 years. In the last 12 years, especially in the PV ground installations, EPCs, investors and technical advisors were actively chasing new connection dates, new feed-in tariffs and other innovative projects to improve and optimize solar assets. In the last decade, only a few companies were looking beyond the present and had a possibility to improve their strategies and operations, while the majority were stuck focusing on the strategies linked to the government incentives that had to be applied only for a limited time, without looking further into the future.
There was never enough time in the PV sector to implement new procedures. If we compare the procedures in place in a photovoltaic sector to the procedures that are being implemented in an automotive or aviation sectors, the PV sector is falling too far behind.
Being such a young sector, it’s crucial for the companies and industry leaders to share ideas and learn from each other’s mistakes. Connecting with like-minded professionals at global annual meetings and conferences is more important in PV sector than in any other sectors out there, as it helps develop stronger relationships and create new opportunities for the industry as a whole.
Double use of the soil
When the incentives go down, success of the project can be reach by applying double use of the soil. Currently in the UK almost 40 % of the PV ground installations have sheep on site in order to keep down the cost for cutting the grass, and this is only a starting point. Better results can be obtained by putting on site bees or hens, yet there is still a risk of it not being sufficient enough.
Without investing in a very high risk of the PV projects that are completed in order to power Bitcoin or other crypto currencies, new digitalized greenhouses are what can give the projects a good return instead.
Solar greenhouses
In Italy, according to the new draft of the law that defined the new incentives for PV installations and have been circulating lately, the tariff for greenhouses will be 0.11 Euro - up to 100 Kw and 0.09 Euro for green houses below 1 MW. In a place like Sicily, with PV production very close to 1600 Kwh per Kw, the installation of digitalized greenhouses can be an important part of the revenue of the project.
