The process was complex. FuturaSun commissioned a non-profit organisation, which has been supporting companies in their sustainability journey for more than 10 years, to study the consumption of resources (materials, water, energy etc.) and the impact on the environment of the Silk Plus photovoltaic modules (400-410 Wp).
The study therefore covered the entire life cycle of the photovoltaic module, from the processing of raw material, its transformation into a photovoltaic cell, to the production of the PV module, transport to the installation site, the 30-year lifespan of the system, waste and final recycling.
Based on the study with the “cradle to grave” approach, the so-called Environmental Product Declaration was drawn up, according to the guidelines of the UNI EN ISO 14025 standards and the specific Product Category Rules.
Demonstrate transparency in the environmental product certification
To guarantee impartiality, independence and the correctness of the data, the EPD was further verified and validated by ICMQ, an independent certification and testing body for the construction industry accredited by Accredia, the single national accreditation body recognised at international level.
Finally, the EPD, certified by ICMQ, was admitted for publication by EPDItaly, the only Italian Program Operator accredited by Accredia and compliant with UNI EN ISO 14025, with international recognition. This is why the EPD of the FuturaSun Silk Plus is now valid worldwide with no need for further verification.

Through these three steps, FuturaSun wanted to demonstrate once again transparency in the environmental certification of its products, maintaining its longstanding approach: carrying out independent certifications far beyond legal requirements. This approach helps customers make informed choices regarding photovoltaic modules and responds to the growing the demand for sustainability along the entire solar value chain, the company stated.
