Malaysia’s installed solar capacity is expected to increase fourfold by 2030 to a total of 4GW, and TNB Energy Services Sdn Bhd (TNBES), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), is leading the way in the country.
TNBES has signed an exclusive distribution agreement with ChemiTek to bring their innovative solar cleaning products to the country after using them in their own daily cleaning operations.
TNBES has been among the pioneers in the solar PV industry in Malaysia, successfully delivering 43 solar hybrid stations across nationwide, as well as being involved in operation and maintenance (O&M) of solar hybrid stations since early 2000. The nature of O&M business requires periodic cleaning of panels, to ensure an optimum energy generation by the system.
All this while, TNBES’ maintenance teams had been struggling with harsh soiling in several PV plants and ended up needing too much time and water to bring the cleaning quality up to their demanding standards. Bird droppings, carbon deposits, pollen, resin, and soil dust are common types of soiling found on their daily operations.
ChemiTek presented the TÜV Sud certified cleaning product, called Solar Wash Protect (SWP), to which TNBES showed interest in testing it. Product samples were sent to the maintenance teams and the results were as promised. They were able to quickly remove even the harshest soiling with a small quantity of the SWP washing solution and most of the treated water was used to rinse the panels in the end.
In addition, the anti-adherent protection left on the surface of the panel after the cleaning was a plus. Besides making the cleaning easier, it also made the soiling rate decrease and the PV plants are now producing more energy between cleanings.
Based on the experience and trust for ChemiTek and its products, TNBES decided to strengthen the relationship by becoming ChemiTek’s exclusive distributor in Malaysia. Other local O&M companies and end clients in Malaysia now have access to local stocks of ChemiTek’s products and to TNBES’ experience in using them.
TNBES and ChemiTek are aiming to become the reference, in Malaysia, for cleaning efficiency and increased profitability of solar resources while meeting all the industry’s guidelines.
