Svolt to build another battery factory in Brandenburg

After the planned location in Saarland with plants in Überherrn and Heusweiler, Lauchhammer in Brandenburg is Svolt's second announced production site for battery cells in Germany. The company is one of the world's largest manufacturers of vehicle batteries. The site in Lauchhammer is available at short notice because wind turbine manufacturer Vestas only recently stopped producing rotor blades here.

Svolt has now acquired the plant, including buildings and infrastructure, from the previous owner. The majority of the existing halls will continue to be used in the best possible way for the construction of the battery cell factory. However, further conversion and expansion measures are necessary, which are now being carried out.

Svolt strengthens e-mobility cluster in Brandenburg

In future, Svolt intends to benefit from the synergies between the two plants in Heusweiler and Lauchhammer. The battery cells produced in Lauchhammer will be further processed at the future site in Heusweiler, Saarland, and prepared for use in e-vehicles. The group is relying on a completely cobalt-free battery cell (NMX cell).

The company has deliberately chosen Brandenburg for its next location project in Germany. In the region around Lauchhammer and in Brandenburg as a whole, a centre for electromobility has emerged in recent years. Many companies along the supply chain and the battery life cycle are located there - BASF, for example, manufactures in the direct vicinity and Svolt has entered into a partnership for battery materials and recycling with them at the end of 2021.
