The Battery Show Europe highlights innovations

The event is perfectly timed in the wake of recent news highlighting substantial growth in battery and H/EV markets, including LG Chem’s planned trebling of European EV battery production, new Mercedes-Benz battery production at Untertürkheim, Samsung SDI’s Hungarian EV battery facility, plus Volkswagen’s announcement just this month that the company has contracted its Braunschweig plant to produce up to 500,000 EV battery packs per year.

With growth in the sector fulfilling optimistic forecasts, over 350 manufacturers and service providers from across the supply chain will display thousands of design, production and manufacturing solutions, providing visitors with an in-depth view of the cutting-edge technologies that will take this industry into the future.

Cutting-edge technology and innovations on display

The trade fair halls will feature novel concepts and products newly brought to market. Volkswagen will be exhibiting its production model I.D. Buzz Microbus – fully electric, all-wheel drive, 275kW power, 435km range and 160km/h top speed. On a faster track, visitors will be able to meet MS&AD Andretti Formula E driver António Félix da Costa on TE Connectivity’s stand on 16 May, offering a unique opportunity to learn more about Formula E racing.

Henkel’s interactive exhibit will take visitors on a journey through the company’s materials integration into battery technologies for new-energy vehicles, advanced driver assistance systems, automotive lighting and powertrain technologies. The enormous interest in EV charging will be reflected in solutions right across the exhibit halls. HUBER+SUHNER will showcase high-power charging in less than 15 minutes, and Delta-Q Technologies will introduce the first UL-certified line of lithium battery chargers, a 900W/1,200W lightweight series suitable for use on EVs.

The latest innovations and technologies for battery manufacturing and applications will be unveiled in the Product Showcase, a series of demonstrations highlighting cutting-edge developments. World-leading names contributing to this initiative will include LEONI, Bühler, Paraclete Energy, ThyssenKrupp, DEWESoft, HUBER+SUHNER, Voltabox, Siemens and Bosch Rexroth.

High-level conference tackles key industry issues

Running alongside the trade fair, The Battery Show Conference Europe 2018 offers an expanded three-track programme, and features over 140 speakers – twice as many as in 2017. Experts from battery manufacturers, automotive OEMs, Tier 1s, and academic, government, startup and research organisations will speak on a wide range of issues underpinning and challenging the industry today. Ford, Mercedes Benz-Daimler, Volvo, Jaguar Land Rover, Mitsubishi, Tata, Porsche, Toyota, Renault-Nissan, Cosworth, McLaren, MAN and Wrightbus, plus a host of other organisations, will contribute to an informative, dynamic, inclusive experience.

“We are very excited about opening our doors to this year’s event,” said Event Director Steve Bryan. “We will occupy around double the space compared to the launch last year, with 150 additional exhibitors, and  the growth of the conference programme, demonstrating the strength of the impact we immediately made on the industry here. Pre-registrations indicate that visitor and delegate numbers will be substantially up – we expect in excess of 5,000 this time round.” (HCN)
